Home The Buzz Neil Bishop's Reflection on the London Bombings STATEMENT FROM NEIL BISHOP TO THE CIRCUITAs many of you will know, my mother has been seriously unwell since April 2004. After sixteen weeks in hospital, and several weeks when she was critically ill and considered in danger of death, she was diagnosed with a disease called sarcoidosis, which normally affects the respiratory system but can in rare cases affect the nervous system too. She has made a remarkable fightback from the critical phase of the disease but now lives in a nursing home because she needs 24 hour nursing care. Despite recovering almost completely from the mental impairment caused by the illness, there is no sign that she will make any further physical progress towards recovery. My mother does receive a great deal of support from my father and from her sister, who both live nearby, but Helen and I have felt increasingly frustrated that we cannot offer more support to them because of my weekend commitments. In vuew of our personal situation, the Stationing Advisory Group gave their permission just before Christmas for me to look for a new appointment either closer to Derby or which would give me more freedom to visit my mother at weekends, and since then I have looked at a number of possibilities. However, I have now accepted the post of Manager of the Darnall Forum, a voluntary and community group in a multicultural part of Sheffield. I have agreed to begin work for them on the 1st of September. This means that I shall be leaving the Circuit at the end of August. I should like to thank you all for your help and support over the last ten years, but I should especially like to thank Steve for his help and understanding, and Margaret and Audrey for their support – Margaret in her role as senior circuit steward, and Audrey as the circuit steward tasked with providing personal pastoral support to us over the last year. She has been a great help to us during the last few months. |
